At Barnardos Australia, the safety and wellbeing of children is at the centre of everything we do. The children and young people that come into our care have gone through unimaginable trauma from severe disadvantage, abuse and neglect. Our evidence-based and tailored programs and services are designed to support their recovery and development so they can have every opportunity to reach their full potential.

The support of Barnardos through Christmas in Pyrmont is vital in continuing our mission to provide life-changing services to children and their families, helping fund our wraparound programs including counselling and therapy, school and homework assistance, and parenting and family support services.

With the current cost-of-living crisis, we have had a surge of children and families in need of help. With many families struggling to meet their children’s most basic needs, providing a roof over their heads,  and an alarming increase of child abuse and neglect, the need for our services has never been greater.

For example, Barnardos Sydney Metro Children’s Family Centre is such an essential resource for vulnerable Indigenous and non-Indigenous children and families living within your local community. The centre offers:

• Early childhood education and care services for children aged 18 months – 5 years old
• Youth homelessness support by re-connecting young people with their families and community
• Short-term foster care for children who are not safe at home, and family services that help children eventually return to their families safely
• Aboriginal child and family in-home support, counselling, parenting support and playgroups to ensure that children are safe, healthy and thriving
• After-school homework support for primary-aged Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children to help them with their learning and keep them connected to their culture through cultural activities

The vital support Christmas in Pyrmont provides will help our overarching mission in creating a safe and nurturing environment, where every child is given the opportunity to achieve their brightest future.
