Pyrmont Cares recycles furniture and white goods to those who need them most in the City of Sydney. For several years Pyrmont Cares has operated a Recycling Depot in Balmain. On 18th April Pyrmont Cares was given 14 days’ notice to leave, in accordance with the rental agreement. We managed to find a suitable alternative facility in Leichhardt, involving a rental increase of 76%. This extra unbudgeted rental expense represents nearly 20% of the organisation’s total operating costs and so is significant.
In addition, the changed layout of our depot required us to buy additional furniture-handling equipment to ensure our volunteers’ continued safety. This has caused Pyrmont Cares to review and restructure its financial budget and revenue-raising processes. The donation to be made by Christmas In Pyrmont will be gratefully applied to these additional expenses in order to permit Pyrmont Cares to continue supplying furniture and appliances to the needy of Sydney City.
